Davao swimmers sink opposition By Marianne L. Saberon
POWERHOUSE Coastland Davao Swim Team (CDST) came in full force to dominate the 1st Tuna City Invitational Age-Group Swim Meet at the Acharon Sports Complex in General Santos City over the weekend.
CDST garnered a total of 867 points for the over-all championship plum while host Dadiangas Torpedoes Swim Team (DTST) earned 709 for runner-up honors. The Sea Lions Swimming Club placed third after amassing 443 points.
The Iligan City Amateur Swimming Club came in close fourth with 440 points while South Cotabato Amateur Swimming Association got 249 for fifth place.
Completing the top 10 finishers were Gensan Skipjack (207), Evangelista Aquatics Swim Team-Davao (75), Panabo City Swimming Club (28), Polomolok Swimming Club (9) and the Swimming Club of Unified Davao (8).
CDST, managed by Davao City Swimming Association president Deedee Gonzalez, also bagged the biggest delegation and most friendly team awards.
Davao's 3rd Mindanao Games double gold medallist Carlo Rodriguez led the Davao onslaught with 10 gold medals and one silver, making him the most bemedaled swimmer in the boys 18-above category.
His teammate, Celina Gonzalez, also captured 10 golds for the same honor in the girls nine to 10 years old division.
Back-to-back Batang Pinoy Games champion Jose Joaquin Gonzalez, who collected eight golds and one silver in boys nine to 10, along with Ruditha Poralan (nine
golds, two silvers in girls 18-above) and Analie Rodriguez (four golds, four silvers, two bronzes in girls 13-14) were also named most bemedaled swimmers in their respective categories.
CDST was also bannered by medalists Domenico Venuti, Patrick Pineda, Francis Puentespina, Boggey Angala, Reiner Decierdo, Sergio Venuti, Alec Jovero, Nolan Camlian, Romy Sailadin, Ethel Pobre, Bea Nazareno, Ina Labao, Alyanna Malabanan, Gianina Gonzalez, Jullianni Rodriguez and Patma Kasim.
Meanwhile, teammates Bajjio Malabanan, Uno Evangelista, Kiko Isaguirre, Princess Castillo, Xina Evangelista, Iya Platon, Mika Isaguirre, Stephanie Decierdo, Erika Nazareno, Jessica Pineda, Trixic Pineda and Windeeline Pobre failed in their bid.
The swimfest was organized by DTST in coordination with the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (Pasa).
