ONE of the three Army officers accused of recruiting reservists to a destabilization effort in the event presidential aspirant Fernando Poe Jr. is disqualified from running had been assigned in Davao region.

Col. Ernesto Amboy was the chief of the Army's 36th IB based in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur in the early 1990s.

Amboy, along with Col. Nelson Eleazar and Lt. Col. Edgardo de Castro, were accused of recruiting reservists to join the destabilization plot against the government in the event of FPJ's disqualification.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesman Col. Daniel Lucero, in a radio interview Wednesday morning, said the move is a "clear violation" of the law.

Lucero said this is not the first time the three military officers were monitored to have joined in a partisan political activity.

He said the three were also previously monitored to have actively campaigned for their chosen candidates.

It was learned the suspects were relieved from their duties since Feb. 15 and are now under restriction inside a military camp.

But Lucero denied the three were detained.

He said their investigation is still ongoing. No proper charges have been filed so far against the three pending result of the military investigations.

When asked if the AFP is now conducting loyalty check among their ranks as a result of the destabilization plot, Lucero said it is not needed.

"Kami po ay naniniwala sa kakayahan ng ating mga field commanders. Na ang ating chain of command ay malakas at kayang i-maintain ang mga tauhan sa field," said Lucero.

He then appealed to the retired generals who are actively involved in politics to leave the AFP alone.

"Tantanan nyo na kami. Hayaan nyo po kaming magpalakad ng AFP," Lucero said.
