Deputy mayor denies illegal construction
A DEPUTY mayor of Davao City on Wednesday denied before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) that his two-storey building on Juan Luna Extention, Davao City was built without a building permit January last year.
With the help of his counsel Raymond Batu, deputy mayor Randy Usman entered a not guilty plea to charges of violation of the National Building Code during Wednesday's arraignment before Judge Daydews Villamor of the MTCC 5.
Villamor set the pre-trial of the case on April 12.
Earlier, Assistant City Prosecutor Danilo Belo forwarded the criminal charges against Usman based on the resolution penned by prosecutor Arlene Palabrica.
The charges stemmed from the complaint filed by building inspector Engineer Chuchi Policarpio who claimed that Usman did not possess a building permit for the construction of a two-storey building with roofdeck. This prompted the City Engineer's Office (CEO) to file the complaint against Usman.
In his counter-affidavit, Usman denied the allegations, saying he had already requested for a building permit from the CEO as of Sept. 2, 2002 but he was still waiting for CEO to provide him the necessary permit. RCB
