Mixed results for DCity pugs
MATI, Davao Oriental -- Only three pugs will keep Davao City's hopes alive after two of its bets bowed out of contention in the 2004 Davraa boxing meet at the Centennial Sports Complex Tuesday night.
Multi-titled Davao boxer Ali Brashary Cali beat R. Umbay of Panabo City in the 45 kgs. Division, while Jonas Jerusalem subdued another Panabo bet in the 48 kgs. light flyweight category.
Davao's Guiller Ramos will automatically fight J. Puzon of Davao del Norte in the 39 kgs. vaccumweight semis slated last night since only few entries were entered in the weight division.
Dabawenyos mosquitoweight Moschalen Lucenara and Charino Quiapo lost their opening bouts.
Over at the Mati Municipal open court, Davao City Durians boys basketball team drew first blood by routing host Davao Oriental 84-60.
Jovanne Jimenez scored 14 points, while Greggy Delica and Joseph Hermosisima added 10 and six, respectively, to lead scoring for the Ildefonso Cunanan-coached Davao squad.
The Durians girls' team grabbed its second straight win after demolishing Davao Oriental 83-38 Wednesday morning.
Karen Cantaluna, Roco Maratas and Irish Hingpit led scoring for the Ruben Botohan-mentored team.
Botohan's squad crushed Tagum City 98-49 in the opener Tuesday.
In athletics, Davao City's Teodoro Nonato Jr. took his second gold after he ruled the boys' secondary long jump event. His first gold was in high jump. MLS
