Reds raid Army camp: Girl dead, 7 wounded
A 13-YEAR-OLD girl died while two soldiers and members of their families, including a two-year old girl, were wounded when suspected members of the communist New People's Army (NPA) attacked Thursday an Army detachment in Mt. Diwata in Diwalwal, Monkayo, Compostela Valley province.
Lt. Col. Max Caro, chief of the Army's 36th Infantry, identified the dead as Hanna Joy Villaber, a high school student, of Purok 14 in Mt. Diwata. She was hit by stray bullets.
Wounded were PFC Benzar Balahim, PFC Morabel Dael and his wife Jennylyn and two-year-old daughter Marina Dael, Dante Perez, Candelario Jumangit and an unidentified barangay tanod.
Caro said that around 80 to 100 rebels from the Front Committee (FC) 20 of the NPA led by Ka Alex Rosete attacked the Pag-asa detachment of the 36th IB in Mt. Diwata at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
Six soldiers and their families were staying at the detachment when the incident happened.
Caro condemned the incident and challenged the rebel group to attack only the military and exclude civilians.
In February, suspected NPA rebels also attacked a police detachment in Barangay Linda, Nabunturan, killing one PO3 Victor Guilles and wounding PO1 Michael Lom-oc. RCO
