DCity swimmers stamp their class
MATI, Davao Oriental -- The unstoppable Davao City swimmers amassed a total of 33 gold medals, 11 silvers and six bronzes after Day Two of the 2004 Davraa swimfest at the Mati Centennial Sports Complex here Wednesday.
The Davao tankers added 17 golds, five silvers and four bronzes to their 16-6-2 medal count in the opener of the swimfest Tuesday.
Davao City athletic manager Jimmy Cerrojales on Thursday said, "We are very proud of our swimmers. They really performed beyond our expectations."
The Davao City swim team is still expected to stretch its string of medals as 18 more events were set to be competed in the ongoing final day of competition Thursday.
Alyanna Malabanan struck for two golds in girls' elementary 200-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke to lead Davao's stirring campaign on the second day of competition.
Kadel Jawalde, who copped the boys' secondary 100-meter butterfly gold Tuesday, pocketed the 200-meter breastroke gold.
Gianina Gonzalez (girls secondary 200m breastroke), Jose Joaquin Gonzalez (boys elementary 200m freestyle), Junie Barani (boys secondary 400m freestyle), Analie Rodriguez (girls secondary 400m freestyle), Justin Gonzalez (boys elementary 50m backstroke), Julliani Rodriguez (girls secondary 100m backstroke), Ronie Barani (boys elementary 100m freestyle) and Anna Celena Gonzalez (girls elementary freestyle) also grabbed one gold each.
Davao also ruled the boys and girls secondary and elementary 4X50m freestyle relay and the girls' secondary 4X100 medley relay.
Island Garden City of Samal salvaged a gold in boys secondary 4X100 medley relay while Davao Oriental's Raymond Morales took the boys secondary 100m backstroke gold. MLS
