Davao City's tax collection for January increases by 14%
DAVAO City collected some P147.4 million for taxes and fees in January.
Business Bureau chief Erwin Alfaraque said the collection is 14 percent higher compared to last year's collection for the same period at P129.9 million.
An active business climate was seen as early as January, with the number of business permits issued rising to 7,862 or an increase of 60 percent against last year's issuances of 4,428.
Alparaque also reported that the number of applications for new business and renewal reached 20,115 or 27 percent higher compared to last year's figure of 15,844.
A comparative report from the Business Bureau likewise showed that the total business taxes collected for January was P117.7 million, which is 14 percent higher compared to the same period last year at P103.5 million.
Permits and other regulatory fees collected for the month of January was 13 percent higher at P29.6 million against last year's collection of f P26.3 million.
"Most of the investors come from Luzon and Visayas who engage in food processing, manufacturing and services," he said.
Meanwhile Roberto Teo, head of the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center, said investors prefer Davao City because doing business here is cheap.
He said the cost of rentals, manpower and electricity, including prices of real properties, is cheaper than in Manila and Cebu. PIA/PDB
