City checks relocation site for professional squatters
By Aurea A. Gerundio

CITY Housing Office (CHO) chief Cesar Dataya on Friday conducted inventory of lots at the Matina Pangi relocation site following rumors that there are professional squatters awarded with lots.

"We are now conducting an inventory to look into the allegations regarding the professional squatters here and we would like to solicit help from those who have knowledge about these allegations to coordinate with our office. Please give us the names because until now mere speculations lang," Dataya said.

If allegations will be proven true and alleged professional squatters will be identified, then they will be ejected from the housing program, according to Dataya. "Instead, we will award the lot to qualified individual or family," he added.

As of Friday, a total of 137 structures were built within the four-hectare property. "There are 236 lots in this property," Dataya said.

Dataya said some 50 to 60 structures will be constructed within the relocation site.

"Ang mga applicante nito eh 'yung sa Couples for Christ Gawad Kalinga program. Ang mga beneficiaries kasi nila qualified na rin before sa aming office," Dataya added.

With regards to installation of electricity, Dataya said they have already submitted an application to the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC).

He said they can't rush installation, but that 50 houses have already received water connections.

Dataya said occupants at the Matina Pangi relocation have yet to pay the lots when the area is completely developed.

Meanwhile, City Engineers Office (CEO) chief Meinrado Metran said there are still pending works at the relocation site.

"We still have to grade some portions and repair the road. There's also work to be done in the canal and other) miscellaneous works," Metran said, adding that the city government has already appropriated about P4 million for the development of the site.
