Panabo earmarks P800T for Araw celebration By Raquel C. Bagnol
The local government of Panabo city has earmarked a total of P778,000 for the 3rd Araw ng Panabo celebration on March 31.
This was bared by Panabo city mayor Rey P. Gavina on Friday, although he admitted this year's celebration will not be as lavish as the first anniversary of the city.
Gavina said he invited showbiz personalities to grace the occasion, but he clarified that there are no political strings attached to his efforts to make the Araw celebration successful.
Committee on Soci-Economic chair Dionisia Dulay said they have several contests set for the celebration, including an agro-industrial trade fair, float parade, and street-dancing.
"On March 27, we will open the 'Taboan' contest, an agro-industrial fair which has two levels, the barangay level and the corporate level," Dulay said, adding that a P20,000 prize is at stake for the first prize in both levels, P15,000 and P10,000 for the second and third prize respectively.
Dulay also said that among the highlights of the celebration is the "Kuradang sa Kadalanan", a street dancing competition.
"For the Kuradang, we have invited the Lumads and the Indigenous people to participate. Hopefully, they will accept our invitation," Dulay said.
Dulay also said that the socio-economic committee has set aside P24,000 as contingency funds for the celebration.
