Id denies only GMA, partymates allowed on stage in Araw parade
By Aurea A. Gerundio

CITY Tourism Office chief Id Acaylar dismissed reports that only President Arroyo and her political partymates will be allowed on stage during the Araw ng Dabaw parade on March 16.

Acaylar said President Arroyo would be on stage, but only as a guest. He said the festivity is not a political undertaking, and that candidates who wish to appear on stage will be accommodated.

"But, they are not going to deliver speeches," Acaylar said.

Security

Meanwhile, Araw ng Dabaw parade committee chair James Zimmerman said the security for the upcoming celebration has become the least of their worries.

He said participants are confident that police would ensure security during the event.

Zimmerman said a total of 140 contingents have registered for the parade, which will start from Magsaysay Park passing through the streets of Uyanguren, Claveria, Bonifacio, Legaspi and up to San Pedro.

Zimmerman said none of the contingents are political groups.

Although, he admitted that there were representatives of presidentiables, including Raul Roco and Eddie Villanueva who approached the parade committee and requested to allow them to join the parade.

"We allowed them to join pero sa likod na sila ng parade. Saka na sila dudugtong after all other contingents have paraded. Considering that it is campaign season, hindi talaga maiiwasan na may bigla na lang pupunta on streets at kakamay sa mga tao," Zimmerman said.
