No Mutya for Panabo this year

PANABO City won't be seeing Mutya this year.

Mayor Rey Gavina said Friday the socio-cultural committee of the Araw ng Panabo celebration decided to scrap this year's beauty-and-brains search due to the city's unfinished gym, particularly its bleacher sections.

There could be peace and order problems at the gym if the crowd is not handled well, he said.

"The audience seated at the bleachers might jump down to the main area. We could not afford to risk the safety of Panaboans," he said.

Last year, the City also scrapped the contest last year because of the bombings in Davao City.

Gavina hopes the Search for Mutya ng Panabo would be held next year.

In the meantime, he is inviting Panaboans and even people from other cities and provinces to join them in celebrating the 3rd Araw ng Panabo on March 31 when artists from Manila and local performers will perform in Hudyaka sa Plaza at Freedom Park, starting at 6 p.m. PIA
