Bombet, 'Tatay' spark Bomex to victory

MIKE "Tatay" Visconde unloaded six 3-point shots of his 26-point game to lift Bomex Graphics against powerhouse Mindanao Insider, 77-62 in the Vice Mayor's cagefest Friday at the Stella Maris gym in Davao City.

Bomex opened up a fast and furious play in the first half and led by as many as 10 points courtesy of their towering duo of Bombet Te and Vizconde, who made half of the team's score with 52 points.

Teammates Jesus Ceballos and Tony Coyuca finished with 10 and 9 points each, providing most of the rebounds for Bomex.

Biboy Te, who has been prolific in their previous matches, only had four points. Team leader Boy Te was also cold with just a pair of baskets from the free-throw line. He made up with his missed jump shots in the perimeter with eight assists and four steals to spearhead Bomex in their fifth straight win.

Trailing Insider 54-50 in the third quarter, Bomex focused on their inside game and took advantage of Vizconde's and Bombet's strong one-on-one moves to regain momentum and take the lead 60-57 with a minute left.

Filbon Maligro led Insider with 26 points followed by Paguican with 13, Rico Kwantiu with 6 and Eugene Chiong with 7 points.

The fourth quarter saw Bomex dictating the tempo and connecting shots from all angles. Insider slowed down but missed more of their shots. A series of turnovers then changed their game plan and just allowed Bomex to score and burn the hoops.

In the other matchup, Team Survivor dismantled Purefoods Chunkee CB, 72-62.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines and is supported by Quick Chow Instant Mami.

Semi-finals start next week at the Gaisano South Skygym. JET
