Constantino-Perez wins open doubles

DAVAO City's Miro Constantino and Ian Perez of Marbel teamed up to win the open doubles crown and P9,200.00 cash prize plus trophy of the Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Cup Philmasters 2004 Darts Championship at the SM City South Gallery Friday night.

The tandem of Henry Rivera and Robert Reyes of Manila placed second (P4,800.00 plus medals), while Lorenzo Ilagan and Lorena Silac shared the third place honors (P3,600.00 plus medals) with the Jeofree Adumduman-Allan Elveña pair.

Nonoy Adanza-Tony Pudado of Cagayan de Oro along with Noel Anino-Louie de Jesus, Boyet Go-Mario Retuerto and Rene Mozar-Mon Oliveros were in joint fifth (P1,800.00).

Meanwhile, Dhoe Macasaquit of Marikina defeated Jojo Villar to arrange a titular showdown against Davao City player Jun Noynay who beat Tagum's Yoko Quillope in the non-rated beginners singles event.

Villar and Quillope were in joint third while Syl Bagaybuyo, Andy Villamor of Bukidnon, Rene Mozar of the City Assessors Office and Ateneo de Davao University's Cecilio Ferraren shared the fifth place.

A tournament official said, "There were still out-of-town players who just arrived in time for the men's and women's open singles competitions. The turnout is overwhelming indeed."

He said that this was the first time a national tournament has no registration fee and that cash prizes were doubled.

"Darters from all over the country who competed here are very fortunate because they enjoy playing for free and they can also win bigger cash prizes. They were really happy when Mayor Duterte announced that the cash prizes will be doubled," the official said.

Duterte doubled the original total cash prize of P100,000 just before the start of the tournament. MLS
