Manny Pacquiao ko'd in round 2

WORLD boxing champion Manny Pacquiao will have to stick to the ring where he has amassed a fortune, instead of earning peanuts in the other sport he loves--billiards.

Pacquiao was knocked out Friday in the second round of the 2004 Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Araw ng Dabaw Billiards Tournament at the Cherry Hill Billiard Hall on Bolton St. here.

But, except for one, top-rated internationalists advanced to the third round in the tournament which offers a cash prize of P50,000.00 to the champion.

Asian Games doubles gold medalist Gandy "Yang-Yang" Sapsal and veteran Dennis Orcullo eliminated their rivals to enter the top 16 of the 2004 Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Araw ng Dabaw Billiards Tournament Saturday.

Bowing out of the tournament was Cebu City standout Dodong Gabica who succumbed to General Santos City bet Robby Yugama 7-9.

Davao City-born Sapsal, who beat fellow Dabawenyo Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medalist Lee Vann Corteza for the Tirador Challenge title in Manila recently, booted out one alias Yong-Yong Libungan of Cotabato 9-6.

Orcullo, who hails from Surigao City, edged Benjie Malasa of General Santos City in a thrilling 9-8 encounter.

Davao's 3rd Mindanao Games 9-ball gold medalist Romeo "Upaw" Timcang routed Reynaldo Escalada 9-3 to also remain in contention for the top prize.

The championship matches of the class C-D and open divisions will be played Sunday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the NCCC Mall of Davao amphitheater. MLS
