Tagum sends three bets to 2nd round

TAGUM City netters Dexter Looc, Anthony Aclan and Wawi Notarte advanced to the next round after downing rivals at the start of the Prince Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Araw ng Dabaw Juniors Age-Group Tennis Championships at Ecoland Phase 1 tennis center Saturday.

Looc crushed Davao City bet Glenn Villacarlos 6-1, 6-3, while Aclan outlasted Richard Herese 6-3, 7-5 in boys 18-under event of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned meet.

Notarte came from behind to edge Henry Añana to arrange a second round match against top-seed El Santo Santos in boys 14-under.

Princeton Gerapusco of Marbel, South Cotabato overcame Davao player Andrei Dizon 4-7, 7-5, 10-7, while Karl Damo crushed John Bagacay 6-0, 6-1 to also enter the next round.

In the boys 15-under, Robin Vallescas of M'lang, North Cotabato routed Nelvin Liza 7-6, (7-2), 6-1.

Davao's Mikee Modelo pulled off a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory against Cyndy Gerapusco in girls 14-under.

First round winners in 10-under unisex were A. Canseron, Jay Ann Cabilao of Pikit, Ryan Casicas of Compostela Valley, Arch Laquihon of Surigao and Joel Cabusas of Toril.

Canseron whipped Louie Aquino 6-4, 6-1 to play against Juan Paolo Cansino in the second round.

Cabilao plastered Nano Añana 6-2, 6-0, while Casicas zeroed in on Louie Tambayayong 6-0, 6-0.

Laquihon defeated sibling Joel 6-4, 6-2, while Cabusas overwhelmed fellow Dabawenyo Jamsel Longakit 6-2, 6-3.

Gift certificates and trophies will be awarded to the winners of the tournament organized by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.

Matches in men's open singles and pro-am doubles are played at the PTA tennis courts where cash prizes are up for grabs. MLS
