111 arrested for gun ban violation, 37 for liquor By Ben O. Tesiorna
THE Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Wednesday reported of a peaceful and orderly May 10 elections in the whole region.
Police regional director Chief Supt. Isidro Lapeña credited the Commission on Elections and all the other government agencies for their support resulting to a relatively peaceful elections.
Lapeña said a regional election monitoring action center (REMAC) was created and duplicated down to the municipal level to ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections.
He added that about 59 checkpoints were established all over the region, which resulted to the confiscation of 125 firearms and the arrests of 111 individuals.
Ninety-nine people were also arrested for carrying bladed weapons and 95 were confiscated. Several explosives and explosive materials were also confiscated with 9 people arrested.
On the liquor ban, 37 people were arrested for violation.
Lapeña also credited the candidates themselves for the peaceful elections. He said they had forged 46 peace covenants among the candidates all over region 11.
It was learned that there were seven election-related violence recorded in the region. Three of which happened in Monkayo, Compostela Valley which was the only municipality in the region placed under the Comelec control.
