Japanese accused of raping minor charged
By Raquel C. Bagnol

THE City Prosecution Office (CPO) has formally filed charges against a 63-year-old Japanese national before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for allegedly raping a grade three pupil selling kangkong in his residence in Bunawan, Davao City last month.

In a resolution, prosecutor Sharuddin Roberto O. Sencio Jr. recommended the filing of non-bailable rape charges against Kaname Mineyaka, a Japanese national of Bunawan, Davao City after finding probable cause he might be guilty of raping 11-year-old Geralyn (real name withheld for being a minor), of the same place.

Mineyaka was arrested by elements of the Bunawan Police station at around 10 a.m. on April 30.

Police records show that Geralyn went to the house of neighbor Mineyaka at around 8 a.m. on April 29 to sell kangkong as feed for suspect's hogs.

Upon reaching there, Mineyaka allegedly motioned for Geralyn to come up to his room at the second floor of the building through sign language since he cannot speak the local dialect.

Thinking that she was going to be paid inside his room, Geralyn waited, but Mineyaka took time to cook food.

He allegedly fed Genalyn, but instead of paying for the kangkong, Mineyaka allegedly took off Geralyn's clothes and raped her.

Geralyn claimed she was only allowed to go out at around 2 p.m. that same day.

She said that Mineyaka gave her P8 as payment for the kangkong. Geralyn immediately reported the incident to her parents, who in turn went to the
Bunawan police station and asked for assistance. RCB
