POEA extends job list-up for Korea

REGISTRATION for job openings in South Korea has been extended although some 7,000 job applicants from Davao City and Cotabato have already signed up for possible deployment.

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) 11 director Delfina
Camarillo said their office facilitated the registration starting April this year.

She said with the number of enlistment all over the country, POEA Davao is asking central office that they get a percentage of the total workers needed in SK.

"We had passed a resolution to POEA-Manila requesting that a certain percentage be given to applicants from Mindanao," she said.

She said the Special Hiring Program for Korea (SHPK) is a three-year program with 10,000 workers for deployment each year.

"No recruitment agencies will be involved here because placement is between government to government and the placement fee would come out cheap," she said.

The figure earlier mentioned, she said, does not include that of Cagayan and Zamboanga where POEA counterparts also made their separate registration for SHPK.

Camarillo meanwhile said that because of persistent demand, the registration has been extended and those who will be hired will be deployed as factory workers.

But Camarillo cautioned the applicants against raising their hopes too high because enlistment with POEA is not a guarantee for deployment. They still have to pass a screening process.

She said the selection and interview of the first batch will be in August and deployment of hired applicants will be by December 2004.
