Taste of Mindanao
By Marissa S. Te Eng Fo

A TAPESTRY of flavors and colors at the Mandarin Oriental Manila, a true Mindanao experience I must say, a true pride for Mindanaoans and most specially for Dabawenyos!!!

The recently concluded fest is an adventure and celebration of the region's untold riches. It was held in conjunction with the Filipino Heritage Month organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Department of Tourism.

As I always say Charisse Chuidian Garcia, head of PR of Mandarin does it with a bang! The opening will really catch your eyes and ears my dahlins!! The dance was exotic that paved the way to the Mindanao festival. Seen were wife of Congressman TonyBoy Floirendo, our very own beauty Ms. Universe Margarita Moran-Floirendo (who will be on a family holiday soon with hubby and kids in Europe), GM of Marco Polo Davao Peter Chiu, Mandarin Sales Director Alu Suarez, Mandarin GM Helmut Gaisberger, DTI Secretary Cesar Purisima, Petron Chairman and a true blue Davaoeno Nick Alcantara, Jimmy To of Saranggani, Patty Chiong of Air Philippines, Art Boncato president of Davao Tourism and sales and marketing director of Marco Polo, wife of Belgium Ambassador Gul Tanghe who can never get enough of Ann Pamintuan's design who was also there to showcase her European award winning designs namely "the sun and moon" and the chairs "the cocoon." Ann is president of Mindanao Trade Expo.

Those who also visited the exhibit hall on the second floor of the hotel were: Tana Madrigal of the famous Madrigal clan, Mayor Lito Atienza of Manila, socialite Tina Feibel, G. Araneta, Dr. Vicky Bello, Cory Quirino, admiring the malong I wore was Heherson Alvarez. Passing thru were Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon with senator-elect Bong Revilla.

The multi faceted magnificence of Mindanao were brought to Manilenos by The Marco Polo Davao (food prepared by Chefs Arnold Pamat and Frederick Carcedo), Margie M. Floirendo's Tribes of the East, Sarangani Bay, Marina Tuna, Puentespina Orchids and Tropical Plants, Mindanao Trade Exp. And
definitely let us not forget Sodaco with their popular Lanah. A pride to be from Mindanao!! Till next.....
