Duterte Agilas to stay intact By Marianne L. Saberon
NO REVAMP is necessary for the Duterte Agilas basketball team even after losing two back-to-back title matches to perennial rival Cotabato Braves recently.
This was the statement made by Duterte executive assistant and Agilas manager Christopher "Bong" Go in text messages to Sun.Star Davao Tuesday.
"Let the team jell first. It will be a team to reckon with at the proper time. So far, we are still the best team in Davao," Go said.
Go made the comment following observations made by some local sports buffs that the Agilas badly need an overhaul when they settled only for runner-up honors in the Sulop and Malalag invitational meets.
This, despite the full support the team is receiving from the city government of Davao, according to observers.
The team is bannered by Danilo Salvacion, Bambino Santander, Ritzel Madera, Rey Biñas, Arvin Bonleon, Ariel Bonleon, Elias Resurreccion, Fortunato Coquilla III, Erian Daja, Louie Medalla, Jojit Duremdes and Norberto Farochillen with coaches Dindo Pastor and Bert Malinao.
Erstwhile Agilas playing-coach Cadel Mosqueda is now the team's assistant manager.
Go, however, said he will also look into the conduct of some players who are usually busy using their mobile phones instead of helping out the coaching staff in recent legs of the Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte basketball clinics being held in the city's various barangays.
Meanwhile, the Agilas will compete in the Araw ng Matanao, Digos, Davao del Sur Invitational Tournament on June 20 and 21.
The Cotabato Braves, Montaña Pawnshop and BLBE Auto Repair Shop are also entered in the cagefest where a cash prize of P20,000 if offered to the winner.
