The City Health Office (CHO) issued the reminder following reports that some men in the hinterlands have the habit of reusing them.
"This is the wrong way to use condoms. Don't reuse them. Any birth control tool that enters the reproductive of a woman must be clean," said assistant city health officer Dr. Samuel Cruz, who supervises the population division of the CHO.
He said people should see a doctor before using any contraceptive to understand how to use them properly. He said the CHO offers person-to-person counseling.
Cruz, speaking over dxRP Radyo ng Bayan during the city's regular population program, stressed that women have the right to reproductive health (RH), which is now the focus of an intensified program reaching out to married and reproductive women, including teenagers.
It was observed that despite all efforts of the government to address RH concerns, women still end up with unintended pregnancies.
Women and men might not have the correct information and might lack the access to appropriate services, commented Elma Alicaway of the CHO's population division.
The city government has come up with advocacy programs in joining the yearly World Population Day celebration on July 11 (Sunday) with this year's theme "Making Motherhood Safer: Caring for Mothers in their Time of Need."
The CHO recognizes mothers as vital to realizing the goals of the country's population management program.
