Feared robbery gang behind bus hold-up

POLICE are eyeing a gang involved in robbery and bribery as the one that pulled out a daylight heist on a Bachelor Express Bus at Bingcongan, Tagum City, last Monday.

This developed as a bag belonging to one of the victims was recovered in a riverside barangay in Carmen, Davao del Norte.

Police theorized that the robbery-hold-up was staged by the Kadong Sabasa Gang who has been tagged in several robbery, bribery and other criminal activities in Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental.

Police identified one Junie Villarez, a resident of Taba, Carmen, Davao del Norte, as one of the six armed men who robbed the Bachelor Express Bus with body number 4580, driven by Felix Basinag, a resident of Poblacion, Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

A backpack containing personal belongings and an identification card of one Ruel Pagunsan was recovered at around 11 a.m. last Wesnesday by one Eduardo Calaycay, a purok leader of Purok 2-A, Barangay Ising in Carmen town.

Calaycay said the bag was found beside the river at barangay Ising.

It was turned over to the Carmen Police Precinct.

Pagunsan, it was learned, was among the passengers of the bus.

The bus was traveling north at around 10 a.m. Monday when six men inside the bus pulled out guns and declared a hold-up.

The suspects managed to collect around P45,000 from the bus conductor and the passengers, aside from personal belongings like jewelry and mobile phones.

The suspects alighted at sitio Logpond in barangay Ising.

Police are still tracking down the suspects. translated from Superbalita by Roxanne Ville Serra
