PBA fines 18 erring players

CEBU CITY -- Mark Caguioa was slapped with a P3,000 fine along with 17 others by the Saturday after missing activities of the PBA All-Star Weekend.

Caguioa, who will don the North jersey in the PBA All-Star Game slated Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum, was a no-show during the welcome dinner hosted by Pagcor at the Waterfront Cebu Thursday night, was absent during the lunch hosted by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena at the Grand Convention Center and in the Gimik ng Bayan at the Sunflower City Friday.

The Metro Manila player, however, admitted his fault.

"I really had to rest because I knew it was going to be a long day for me today," an apologetic Caguioa told reporters at the Waterfront lobby Saturday morning.

He was set to strut his stuff in the three-point shootout and trick shot challenge set late in the afternoon.

PBA Commissioner Atty. Jose Emmanuel "Noli" Eala said: "I hope he meant it when he said he was at fault or he would regret it. Everybody has to attend the activities outlined for the All-Star since we are not here for vacation, we are here to work."

"Lahat naman tayo napapagod and we expect everybody to do his part to give back to the fans," he added.

Former Davao City standout and Makilala-born Peter June Simon was also fined P500 for missing the lunch hosted by Mayor Osmeña.

"We had practice that's why I wasn't able to go," Simon said in the vernacular.

Others fined were Asi Taulava (P1,500), Ali Peek (P500), Davonn Harp (P1,500), Mick Pennisi (P1,500), Don Allado (P500), Topex Robinson (P500), Gary David (500), Joey Mente (P500), Felix Belano (P500), Reynel Hugnatan (P500), Rommel Adducul (P500), Rich Alvarez (P500), Eric Menk (P500), Kenneth Duremdes (P500), Paolo Mendoza (P500) and Cyrus Baguio (P500).
