Saturday, August 21, 2004 Barangay councilman killed, 2 others hurt in ambush
A BARANGAY council member was killed while two of his bodyguards were injured when they were attacked by unidentified suspects in Bongo Island in Parang, Maguindanao Friday morning.
Police identified the victim as Guinaid Lagim, a barangay council members in Barangay Limbayan, of the said town. The security escorts injured were identified as Ally Datuwata, 27 and Akmad Mizar.
Maguindanao provincial police office reported the incident occurred at around 8:50 a.m. Friday while the victims were onboard a habal-habal or improvised motorized vehicle.
Upon reaching sitio Barong-barong of the said barangay, armed men peppered them with bullets using high-powered firearms.
Lagim died on the spot while his bodyguards were able to returned fire.
One of the suspects was believed killed or injured as they immediately fled when Lagim's bodyguard approached them.
Police are still conducting further investigation to identify the suspects and determine whether personal grudge was among the motive for the ambush.
