Maxey: Brin out
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

ROMEO Brin's Olympic comeback is over.

A brawler from Thailand by the name of Magnus Boonjumnong sent Brin packing with a lopsided 29-15 points victory in the light welterweight division Thursday night.

Boonjumnong, a silver medal winner in the world championships, proved to be too strong for the Filipino boxer.

The defeat meant that Brin's Olympic stint is finally over. He saw action in Atlanta in 1996 and in Sydney in 2000 but lost both his opening bouts.

He came out of retirement this year and qualified for the Athens Games, his most memorable Olympics where he reached the second round.

With Brin's exit, this leaves Harry Tañamor as the only one standing in the four-member Philippine boxing team. Christopher Camat and Violeto Payla were the first two casualties.

Tañamor, fighting in the light flyweight division, fights tough Hong Moo Won of Korea today and hopes to advance and keep that flickering Filipino hopes alive.
