Davao, Gensan airports now supervised by MIAA
By Antonio M. Ajero

THE Davao International Airport (DIA), still officially called the Francisco Bangoy International Airport, is now under the administrative supervision and control of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and no longer with the Air Transportation Office (ATO).

The transfer of the DIA's supervision is contained in Executive Order 341 signed by President Arroyo last August 4. EO 341 gives the MIAA administrative supervision and control over all international airports in the country.

It was not however known if the transfer of supervision has officially taken effect as of now.

Some Dabawenyos knowledgeable of airport operations lauded the transfer of the DIA's management from a government agency like the ATO to an authority like MIAA, which is expected to be professionally run.

One immediate effect of the change is an increase of its revenues due to the enforcement of standard fees and rentals of an international airport, which are expectedly higher than what are being collected now.

Another expected change is in personnel, now mainly belonging to the ATO. Many of them will be displaced, as the MIAA effects a personnel revamp.
