Acosta to accompany Davao players to Bimp-Eaga games

DAVAO city Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta is scheduled to accompany ten Davao City athletes who will represent the city in the 4th Bimp-Eaga friendship games in Malaysia slated on September 24-26.

"In behalf of City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, I am tasked to accompany the group to Kota Kinabalu. They will be leaving for Manila (Monday) and I will just follow on Tuesday right after the SP session," Acosta said.

She said the ten athletes who will compete in various sports were selected based on their performances in Palawan.

Acosta assured that following the mayor's memorandum to comply with the austerity measures, the group will only comprise of ten athletes, three coaches and herself.

"This is a previous international commitment but it will be a mean and lean delegation. Only those who are supposed to go will be accompanying us," she said.

The trip, she added, will be funded by the Local School Board.

City sports coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go, who hosted a dinner in behalf of Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte to the Davao contingent at Dencio's Kamayan Wednesday night, said the city spent over P459,000 for traveling expenses of the delegates.

Among the ten athletes who will participate in the Games are swimmer Carlo Rodriguez, track star Roy Ocon, jumper Hobert King Adovo, thrower Sharra Grace Tesaluna, dasher Clent Tatoy, thrower Edward Pascua, tankers Leah Jullianni Rodriguez and Nichelle Adovo, and men's swimming coach Brigido "Jun" Rodriguez, women's athletics coach Belen Taala and Emilio Lacanaria.

The athletes are targeting to win at least 16 gold medals. (RCB)
