City tourism, business sectors get boost in US
By Raquel C. Bagnol

PROSPECTS look good for Davao City's tourism and investment sectors as a result of the recently-concluded two-day Pacific-Asia Trade Show in Las Vegas, USA, attended by Davao City officials and businessmen.

This according to Councilor Jesus Zozobrado, chair of the committee on transportation and vice chair of the committee on trade and industry, who said, "The mission achieved its purpose because right after we promoted Davao City at the trade fair, we got positive response. Many Filipinos with American and foreign partners signified interest to visit Davao next Kadayawan and also showed interest to invest in the Philippines.

He said the affair was participated in by many countries, particularly from the Pacific, like Vietnam, China, Hawaii but they were glad to note that there were more Filipinos who joined the trade show.

"Because of the vast number of Filipinos there, it seemed as though we were still in the Philippines," he added.

Zozobrado said there were contingents from Bicol, Cebu, Zamboanga, Laguna and Davao City, who has four exhibit booths.

He also said that the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) also exhibited the island's potentials, particularly its beaches and other tourist attractions.

Davao City was represented by Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan, Davao City Promotions and Investment Center (DCIPC) chief Roberto Teo, and city legal officer Melchor Quitain.

"With us were several Davao City businessmen. Kami gyod ang nag-prepare sa among booth for exhibit," Zozobrado said.

He said that on the second day of the trade fair, they spent almost two hours showcasing their exhibits on the stage.

"DCIPC chief Bobby Teo brought video tapes of the recent Kadayawan festival and presented it to the public to give them a taste of Davao City as one of the most liveable cities in Asia," Zozobrado said.
