By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

THE Mindanao-Palawan delegation to the Sabah International Expo 2004 posted total sales of $20,124.55 during the four-day exhibit held September 9 to 12 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

Mindanao Business Council (MBC) chair Antonio Santos, who also served as the head of the delegation, said during an interview the products showcased during the exhibit marked estimated sales of more than 70 percent.

"We can consider that the products we brought there were sold out. The expo was really successful," he stressed.

Santos said it is very satisfying to see other nationals buying Philippine products, especially those products coming from Mindanao.

Among the products brought with pride to the expo were footwear, fashion bags, fashion accessories, souvenir collections, and garments.

"Our products received a lot of recognition there. Ang dami talagang taong bumili ng mga produkto natin," he said.

Santos underscored that all areas in the island-region were well-represented in the exhibit.

Three booths were occupied by the provinces of Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan, Sulu who shared with Sarangani, and Tawi-Tawi.

While the two other booths were occupied by the Bureau of Fishereies and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Central Office and MBC.

Santos cited that a lot of products produced by some small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the island-region were exhibited in the MBC booth.

"MBC allowed small traders to use part of our booth to sell their products," he said.

Santos added that the theme of the country's delegation was anchored on tourism, trade and investment, and display and selling of products.

Meanwhile, Santos said the Mindanao-Palawan delegation was the biggest group among all other participating countries, with around 90 delegates.
