Wow Minda Expo 2004 launches 'Globetrotting' photo contest

IN ITS objective to promote Mindanao as a major tourist destination in the country, the Wow Mindanao Expo 2004, spearheaded by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 11 and in cooperation with Globe, opens Globetrotting Mindanao, a photo event competition showcasing the DOT slogan of Ganda ng Pilipinas, Galing ng Pilipino.
This competition is open to anyone regardless of age, gender, religion or nationality; to both amateur and professional, other than employees of the Department of Tourism.
The theme is Globetrotting all over Mindanao, Weaving Through Nature and Culture, specifically showcasing the island's best festivals, cultural attractions as well as tourist destinations.
Photographs will be judged on how well they illustrate the competition theme. Any type of camera, except for digital equipment, may be used with film, and photographs should be in color. Photographs for entry must have been taken on or after January 1.
The contest has two categories: (1) Eco-Cultural Destinations in Mindanao; and (2) Festival Destinations that depict the best of any festivals celebrated in the cities of Mindanao, like: Kadayawan, Banana, Kinaiyahan, Kaamulan, Tuna, Zamboanga Hermosa, Pangapog, Anibina, Helubong, Sambuokan, Lubmahuma, Lanzones, etc.
Cash and gift prizes, which will be announced later, await the winning entries. These photos will be used by DOT 11 for purposes of promoting ecotourism, environmental awareness, and proudly highlight the best of Mindanao, with credits to the photographers.
Winning entries will be on exhibit at the SM City Davao from October 1-31.
To join the contest, photographers must first register with the WOW Mindanao Secretariat, Department of Tourism 11 Office, Door 4 Magsaysay Park. Registration is open from September 22-24, from 9am to 4pm. Deadline for submission of registered entries is on or before October 1. Entries will be screened by a panel of judges on October 5, on the first week of the WOW Mindanao Exposition.
