PHILIPPINE No. 2 El Santo Santos of the Rizal Memorial Colleges demolished Malaysian Han Zhou Tan, 6-1, 6-1 Wednesday, to enter the boys' singles quarter-finals in the Futures Foundation-Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) 14-Under Series at the Ynares Socio-Cultural Sports Center in Pasig City.
Santos, a Batang Pinoy champion who hails from Tagum City, arranged a quarters match with Cebuano James Carl Cañete, who overwhelmed Kyaw Naing Aung of Myanmar, 6-3, 6-1, in another match.
Manila's Mark Balce outclassed compatriot Kennex Abadia, 7-6 (6), 6-2, to earn the right to face Cagayan de Oro netter Francis Cassey Alcantara in the quarters.
Alcantara booted out Zhia Hwa Chong of Malaysia, 6-2, 6-2, in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned netfest.
Top-seed Pablo Olivarez of RP downed Malaysian Mark Pee Kwang Xin, 6-4, 6-0, and will next play compatriot Jose Emmanuel Narvaez, who pulled off a 7-5, 6-1 win over Akio Hari Ong Sy.
John Franc Gil Largo walloped Joshua Tan Ho, 6-4, 6-1, while Tomas Apacible downed wild card entry Roman Floreza, 6-3, 6-3.
In the girls' side, No. 1 Jawariah Nordin of Malaysia plastered Martina Rivero, 6-0, 6-0, and will test the mettle of Filipino Zhane Quitara, a 6-0, 6-1 winner
over Myanmar bet Khaine Nyee.
Third-seed local Jessica Agra, who subdued compatriot Julie Em Botor, 6-0, 6-2, also advanced to the next round.
Ateneo de Davao University player Steffi Dizon earlier bowed out of contention.
