Rebel leader mining in Monte de Oro? By Ben O. Tesiorna
A HIGH-RANKING rebel leader is reported to have abandoned his post in the New People's Army and is now working as a miner in a gold rush area in Compostela Valley province.
Col. Agane Adriatico, chief of the 5th Civil Relations Group, said they received intelligence reports that Eduardo Genelsa alias Ka Lando of the Pulang Bagani Command 3 had long abandoned his post as PBC3 commander for a more rewarding endeavor.
He said Ka Lando is now into "business." He did not reveal however what kind of business the rebel leader is into.
Unconfirmed reports revealed though that Ka Lando is now mining in Monte de Oro in Maco, Compostela Valley.
Sun.Star Davao sources revealed that Ka Lando could be the one responsible for the death of two persons and the wounding of another in the gold rush site last week.
Authorities blamed the rebels for last week's attack. Adriatico said the attackers were after the armalite rifle of one of the victims who was an Army soldier.
