Minda takes center stage in dev't, Arroyo assures

MINDANAO takes center stage in development as big public and private investments (such as the establishment of multi-million call centers) are coming in to help address peace and economic development in the island.

In an open forum during the induction of the Philippine Muslim Women Council led by President Arroyo held at Royal Mandaya Hotel, the President told the Muslim women leaders that she ordered her Cabinet members to give focus on peace and development especially on the alleviation of poverty in Mindanao.

She encouraged Muslim women leaders to be advocates for peace and help her Administration's campaign to lure investors to invest in the Philippines.

As part of her strategies for a global campaign to lure foreign investors to put shop in the island, she told Muslim women leaders that she will direct for the speedy concreting work of the 48.85 kilometer Maitum-Palimbang road projects in Sultan Kudarat to pave way for the two market-led investments.

The road project, according to the DPWH in Region 12, is envisioned to promote interregional link between Central Mindanao and Armm.

It will also facilitate the movements of goods and services from the rural areas of Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani province to the neighboring centers like General Santos City and Koronadal City.

It was learned that a Singaporean investor is eyeing Palimbang and Maitum in Sultan Kudarat province as sites for a proposed coalmine and power plant projects.

She told Muslim women leaders to help government improve economy, create jobs, heal the deep divisions of the society and work for unity, peace and development.
