Angging: Accusation is 'shamelessly malicious'

* Says right to assembly is a constitutional right

DAVAO City Councilor Angela "Angging" Librado-Trinidad Thursday described as "shamelessly malicious" the accusation hurled against her by Task Force Davao (TFD) chief Col. Eduardo del Rosario that she betrayed public trust when she joined a militant groups rally protesting the plan to stage Balikatan exercises in the city.

"I wonder whose trust is he referring to. Secondly, I find it shamelessly malicious that the TFD has singled me out when there were other officials present. Councilor (Jimmy) Dureza and barangay captain (Edgar) Ibuyan were there, too. Why train the guns on me exclusively?" Trinidad said.

Trinidad said she joined the rally to express her commitment to carry the voice of the people of this city.

"I say voice of the Dabawenyos because they have spoken through the barangay councils, which petitioned against the conduct of the military exercises. The right to assembly, redress of grievances is a constitutionally guaranteed right extended to everyone. I don't see that as a betrayal of public trust," Trinidad said.

Earlier, Trinidad reminded the TFD of its function as a counter-terrorist unit and not an instrument of repression by pinning bogus labels on cause-oriented organizations.

Trinidad criticized del Rosario for "maliciously" linking militant organizations, especially the Bayan Muna, with the New People's Army.

"I say it is malicious because barely three months after he sat down as the TFD chief, Col. del Rosario has made it a springboard for persecuting militant leaders and militant organizations," Trinidad said.

Trinidad added that the TFD was basically created because of the series of bombings that killed and wounded more than a hundred people in this city last year.

Therefore, Trinidad said, the TFD should be "guarding against terrorist attacks." (AAG)
