Del Rosario welcomes probe on Luque's case

* Says House probe would give the military the opportunity to prove that Luque personally met and gave financial and material support to the NPA

TASK Force Davao chief Col. Eduardo del Rosario Thursday welcomed the impending inquiry to be conducted by the House of Representatives on the alleged harassment of the military on militant leader Alvin Luque.

Del Rosario said he welcomes the move of Bayan Muna Rep. Joel Virador who vowed to file a resolution before the House for an investigation on the rebellion charge filed by the military against Luque.

Del Rosario said the House investigation would give the military the opportunity to prove that Luque personally met and gave financial and material support to New People's Army rebels.

He said they could also prove that Luque ordered the burning of Rural Transit buses along the Davao-Bukidnon highway in Marilog.

"There is nothing personal in this case but purely professional based on the statements of credible witnesses," del Rosario said.

Virador said on Monday that they would be raising the case of Alvin Luque before the House committee on human rights, which they claim was nothing but a form of harassment against progressive leaders like Luque.

He warned military authorities like del Rosario that progressive leaders will not back out from the war being waged by the military against militant groups.

"Sorry na lang na si (Col. Eduardo) del Rosario kay dili gyud namo siya atrasan. Manigulang na lang na siya pero padayon lang gihapon ang among pakigbisog," Virador said.

Del Rosario said the political repression charges filed against him by militant leaders are "malicious allegations designed to mislead the public to cover the truth".

"What is happening here is just a part of the communists' grand strategy of using democracy in order to destroy democracy," del Rosario said. (BOT)
