Davao karatekas pocket three golds in Cavite tourney
DAVAO City karatekas pocketed a total of three gold medals, three silvers and three bronzes at the close of the 1st Washimekai National Karatedo Kyudokan Championships at the Philippine National Police Academy in Silang, Cavite recently.
Shiro Josiah Orogo, Kristine Marie Nalupa and Cris Campomanes led the campaign for Davao-based Commando Martial Arts Training Center of Mindanao (Comatcom) lean-but-mean team.
Orogo clinched the gold in kata and settled for silver in kumite, while Nalupa copped a gold in kumite and a bronze in kata.
Campomanes, meanwhile, added a gold in the male seniors kata of the three-day event.
Ma. Rosario Pelaez salvaged two silvers in kata and kumite events while Ric Señedo and Ariel Fuentecilla each took home a bronze in +65 kgs.
Head of delegation Engr. Rolindo Orogo, in a statement, said: "We are very thankful to our families and friends who supported us during the preparations and in the actual tournament."
Orogo also cited the support the team got from P/Supt. Jose V. Pante, Region 11 chief of RCIDU, PC Insp. Joel R. Consulta, Camp Leonor investigation officer, and to PS Insp. Pelagio Samson, chaplain of PNP Camp Catitipan.
The Comatcom team, also bannered by Jimmy James Bigarda, had been in serious training in recent months to mark its debut in the national karatefest. (MLS)
