Arroyo to DPWH: Fast track Mindanao's infra projects

UPON orders of President Arroyo, Public Works and Highways Secretary Florante Soriquez has instructed Assistant Secretary for Operations in Mindanao Mokamad M. Raki-in to immediately confer with officials, district engineers and division chiefs of Mindanao to fast track the infrastructure projects in the whole island.

In a meeting held at the DPWH XI conference room Thursday, Raki-in said the President's order was meant to boost public confidence in the department.

He challenged all district engineers of DPWH including division chiefs to rally behind government's effort at curbing graft and corruption.

He also asked them to support the 10-point agenda of the President and the six-point policy direction of the department in fast-tracking projects; increasing transparency; enhancing quality of work; maximizing use of information technology; and ensuring accountability to the public.

Raki-in is scheduled to inspect projects in Davao Region and other parts of Mindanao.

In Davao, Raki-in will inspect major ongoing projects together with regional officials of DPWH, particularly Panabo City's coastal road in Davao del Norte, including the construction of two bridges, with a total appropriation of P172 million.
