High-powered arms, ammo seized from farm guards
By Joy G. Romares

NINE high-powered firearms of different calibers and ammunition were seized by a joint police operation from six security guards of the Darmupco banana plantation while on their post in Alejal, Carmen, Davao del Norte Wednesday last week.

In an interview Friday at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 11 office, Supt. Elmer D. Doyo of the Davao del Norte CIDG said the inspection was conducted at around 2:30 p.m. after a civilian agent informed them of the security guards' possession of unlicensed high-powered firearms.

The security guards were identified as Alfredo Mayormita, Edwin Codilla, Michael Mencidor, Ludivico Araneta Jr., Allan Magdadaro and one Rody Barsaman, all of Telstar Security Agency.

"One of our reference in this inspection is "Oplan Paglalansag Omega" -- a PNP-wide flagship project against illegal firearms," Doyo told Sun.Star Davao.

The confiscated firearms include: two M16 rifles with two magazines and 38 live ammunition; two M14 rifles with eight magazines and 135 live ammunition; two M1 carbine rifles with two magazines and 37 live ammunition; two caliber .38 revolvers with 11 live bullets; and one garand rifle with four clips and 28 live bullets.

The arrested security guards are now at the Davao del Norte CIDT office waiting for the filing of appropriate charges against them.

Doyo said the manager of the security agency will be included in the case.

"Jose Alberastine, the security agency's manager will be facing charges too, pero hindi kasali sa kaso ang banana plantation because they only hired these security guards from the agency", Doyo said.
