PCA Tennis elims set in Davao By Marianne L. Saberon
THE Philippine Tennis Association will hold a qualifying tournament in Davao City to determine two wild card entries into the tournament proper of the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships in Paco, Manila.
Juanito "Titong" Cansino, Philta 11 director, said the qualifying event for the Mindanao entries will be conducted on Oct. 30-31 at the GSIS Bldg. tennis court here.
"The Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open organizing committee decided to offer Philta Mindanao two wild card entries to the men's singles main draw in the tournament to be held at Plaza Dilao in Paco, Manila," Cansino said.
He said the wild card tournament aims to allow non-ranked players from the provinces experience the prestigious PCA Open.
"Players must be residents of Mindanao but Manila-based netters could no longer join the wild card event along with players who are in the current top 50 of the Philta men's singles ranking since they may be automatic entries to the main draw," Cansino said.
Cansino added that club players, juniors, class A, B and C players are allowed to participate.
The wild card champion and runner-up will be sent to the PCA Open with free round-trip tickets, hotel accommodations for nine days and entry to men's doubles main draw.
Registration is P300 for every player in the knockout format netfest.
