200 parbusters to see action
By Marianne L. Saberon

CLOSE to 200 golfers will vie for honors in the 8th Commandant's Cup Golf Tournament at the Apo Golf and Country Club here on Saturday and Sunday.

Davao City Councilor Leonardo Avila III, president of the organizing Save Davao Gulf Foundation, said they are hoping to have more participants.

"The more golfers, the better. We would accommodate as many participants we can because the proceeds of this tournament will benefit the programs we have lined up for the welfare of Davao Gulf," Avila told Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) members during their weekly forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.

Avila said the foundation is involved in the ongoing sampling of waters in the Davao Gulf and is also closely coordinating with other government agencies for other projects.

The event will be an 18-hole handicap stroke play to be conducted under the rules of royal and ancient golf club of St. Andrews (R&A), USGA, Apo Golf and country Club and Commandant's Cup.

Hole-in-one prizes include two motorcycles while prizes will also be up for grabs to the champion, first and second runners-up.

Over-all gross and net champions, class A, B, C, D gross and net champions and runners-up will also be declared.

Save Davao Gulf treasurer Carlos Hagosojos said they are thankful for support of Davao Union Cement, Petron, Pepsi Cola and SM City Davao, among other sponsors.

He said the awarding is set at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Mandaya Hotel.
