Ajero: Dabawenyos, Cebuanos voted for George Bush By Antonio M. Ajero Calidarium
LAST Wednesday, November 3 in the Philippines but Tuesday, November 2 in the United States, the US embassy set up watch centers in Manila, Cebu and Davao for invited Filipinos interested to watch the US elections.
Aside from cable TV feeds giving updates on the elections, US embassy down to Davao City, particularly at the Marco Polo Davao Hotel, and provided backgrounders.
Marco Polo's ballrooms 1 and 2 were decorated like it was some US political party headquarters monitoring the voting and the results as they came from the various states.
During lulls, the embassy staff raffled off t-shirts and other goodies, contributing to the festive atmosphere inside the ballrooms.
One interesting about the Wednesday poll watch the mock voting guests were asked to make between re-electionist Republican President George W. Bush and Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry.
The results looked like the microcosm of our May 10 presidential election between President GMA and closest rival FPJ.
Kerry got 181 votes, 11 votes more than Bush's 170 in Manila, but the Davao results showed that Bush got 68 to Kerry's 58. Like GMA last May 10, the Cebu balloting gave Bush 94 to Kerry only 48.
