Barangay Bunawan makes finals By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
WHAT was expected to be tight contest turned out to be a walk-in-the-park win for Barangay Bunawan as it dismantled Barangay Waan Saturday in the rubber match, 107-86, to barge into the finals of the 2004 Duterte Basketball Legue All-Muslim Cup.
Both Bunawan and Waan entered the game dead even at 1-1 after splitting the first two games of the best-of-three semifinal series.
But the fierce competition generated by the two teams early on hardly showed in the third and deciding game as Bunawan knocked off its rival with one mighty assault from the start to finish.
Bunawan now awaits the result of the other semifinal tussle between Barangay 23 C and Barangay 21-C to determine its opponent in the championship series of this event presented by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.
That other semis is also going on a decider, with the do-or-die match set tonight at the Almendras gym.
Barangay 23-C forced the decider after routing Barangay 21-C, 85-66, Friday night.
Cash prizes plus trophies are at stake in the event, with the champion getting a whopping P50,000.
The second placer will get P30,000 and third is assured of P20,000.
The most valuable player (MVP) will also receive P10,000, plus an all-expense paid trip to Mecca, Saudi Arabia courtesy of Mayor Duterte.
