Manado studes visit Davao
By Marissa S. Te Eng Fo

AT LEAST 52 senior high school students and ten teachers from Manado, Indonesia came to Davao City recently, with the following objectives:

* Build close relationship with the people of Davao
* Know more about the cultural values
* Know more about the educational system, government system, tourism management, security and its peace and order because the students believe if there is no peace and order, development is at a standstill.

Constantinus El was the tour leader as well as the English teacher of the group.

Consul Bambang Gunawan of the Republic of Indonesia Consulate here in Davao City was kind enough to introduce me to Mr. El.

From our conversation, I got the impression that they had quite a treat. Wowed too with the "911" emergency hotline (great job of our dear Mayor, a benefit to all), the city's waste management program (a very important tool to safeguard health), eco-tourism (a popular by-word and a good one!).

They also went to the different malls to observe shopping habits of Dabawenyos, schools (Ateneo de Davao University [ADDU], Brokenshire College and Davao Medical School) where some of the students from Manado expressed their desire to enroll and earn their college degrees.

The tour concluded after seven days after a trip to Barangay Eden, Toril where they had the chance to view different parks and definitely the Eagle sanctuary. A cultural show was held at the Indonesian Consulate participated by SMA Negeri-I, from Manado City, Sekolah Indonesia Davao School and ADDU, Brokenshire College and Davao Medical School with singing and dance presentations.

The affair was attended by the diplomatic community of the Republic of Indonesia consular office in Davao headed by Acting Consul General Philemon Arubaya and Consul Bambang Gunawan.

It was a show of beautiful costumes, angelic voices, graceful dancing supported by the Consulate General Kulintang Music Ensemble.

Till next.
