Southern Mindanao is top banana exporter this year
SOUTHERN Mindanao ranked number one this year in terms of production of bananas exported to other countries.
Reports from the Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco) disclosed that total export value of banana products in Southern Mindanao totaled US$312 million.
Northern Mindanao followed next posting total exports of US$242.67 million.
Socsksargen trailed third with US$116.49 million while the Zamboanga Peninsula with US$43.77 million and Caraga with US$18.94 million.
Medco also reported that aside from banana, the other products for export are tuna, fresh pineapple and iron ore agglomerates.
For the first semester this year Medro reported that Mindanao total export for tuna amounted to US463 million, fresh pineapple at US$55 million and iron ore agglomerates at US$40 million.
The bulk of these products went to Japan, USA, Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan and the top emerging market of Iran.
Mindanao's growth for export was also fueled by value-added and semi-processed export products such as pineapple juice and concentrate, nickel ores, oil cake, desiccated coconut and Cetyl and Stearyl alcohol.
