Christmas won't be the same without Bobby By Joy G. Romares
THE brother of abducted Filipino overseas worker Robert "Bobby" Tarongoy said Wednesday that Christmas won't be happy without Bobby.
In an interview, Eugene, Tarongoy's younger brother, said they miss Bobby so much and that they still have no good news about Bobby since he was reportedly abducted in Iraq on November 1.
ABS-CBN Davao reported Wednesday afternoon that Iraqi militants who abducted the Filipino overseas worker lowered the ransom they are demanding from Tarongoy's employer.
"Mag-celebrate lang gihapon mi og Christmas pero syempre, dili na gyud pareha sauna. Every Christmas man gud moadto na siya kauban iyang asawa (Ivy Grace) diri, dungan mi tanan mangaon unya basta mga alas dose y medya, managuli na na sila sa ilang balay sa Panorama (We will still celebrate Christmas, but of course, it will not be the same as last year's. Every Christmas, my brother comes here with his wife, we eat together. At around 12:30, they will go back to their home in Panorama Homes, Buhangin)," Eugene told Sun.Star Davao.
Eugene said his parents, Isabelita and Tomas, who are now in Manila, are always keeping in touch with them.
It was learned that Tarongoy's wife and his parents are now together in a safe house in Manila.
Prayer vigils for Tarongoy continue at the family residence in San Pedro Memorial.
Eugene is hoping that Bobby will soon be released by his abductors.
Meanwhile, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) 11 Chief Zenobia Caro said there is still has no update regarding the case of abducted overseas Filipino worker Roberto "Bobby" Tarongoy in Iraq.
"Totally zero rin ako about Bobby Tarongoy after his parents were brought to the Dole (Department of Labor and Employment) in Manila. Ang DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) na rin kasi ang dapat na magsasalita because they are the ones in charge in negotiating for Bobby's release from his abductors," Caro said.
When asked on her opinion about the chances of Bobby's release, Caro said she could hardly assess considering the delicate peace and order situation in Iraq recently.
Caro, meanwhile, appealed to the public to continue offering prayers for the Tarongoy family.
