Palau's newspaper publisher looks for Davao reporter
By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

THE publisher of the first community newspaper based in the State of Palau visited Davao City to look for an aspiring Dabawenya reporter who could work for him.

Moses Uludong said during the Club 888 forum held Wednesday at Marco Polo Hotel that while his government is trying to establish business ties with the city, he wants to build media links with the Davao City reporters.

When asked why he wanted a Dabawenya to work for him, he immediately answered that he has observed during his visits in the city that Dabawenya reporters are hardworking and can be regarded as one of the best reporters in the country.

"And in case you would ask why I want a female reporter, it's because female reporters can easily get information. And for all you know, information in Palau is power. I want to preserve the freedom of the press there," he said.

Uludong, a journalist who was jailed shortly before Palau got its sovereignty from the American rule in 1994, is continuously fighting for press freedom in the island state.

"I was jailed then because of fighting for press freedom. I want media to continue to be free. And I hope that by getting a female reporter from Davao, we will continue our linkage," he said.
