Registration of wildlife ends today By Ben O. Tesiorna
TODAY is the deadline of the registration of wild flora or fauna to any Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office.
Failure to register wild plants or animals would mean confiscation, said Leonilo Rivera, chief of the protected areas and wildlife division of the DENR 11.
He said that the deadline is mandated by Republic Act 9147 otherwise known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
Rivera said the purpose of the wildlife registration is for them to monitor and control the illegal trade of wild animals and plants in the country.
He said among those considered as wild animals are monkeys, alligators, birds and other exotic animals except those that are already domesticated.
Rivera said after today, they will start confiscating wild animals and plants that are not registered in their office.
