Inter-school volleyball set at Almendras gym
THE University of Mindanao (UM) and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) will revive their rivalry when the Pahalipay ni Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Inter-School Seniors Volleyball Tournament opens on December 18 at the Almendras Gym.
UM is grouped in men's pool A while HCDC in pool B.
But they may meet in the crossover semi-finals and championship round.
Tournament director Daks Yambao, president of the Davao Amateur Volleyball Association (Dava), said the top team in pool A will play against the second team in pool B while pool A No. 2 team will collide with pool B No. 1. The winners will arrange a titular match then the losers will play for third place.
The Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC), University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), Davao Doctors College (DDC) and San Pedro College (SPC) join UM in pool A. HCDC is grouped in pool B with Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), Davao Merchant Marine Academy (DMMA), Agro-Industrial Foundation College (AIFC) and Philippine Women's College (PWC).
Competing in women's pool A are UM, AIFC, SPC, UIC and DDC while HCDC, AdDU, PWC, St. Peter's College of Toril and Brokenshire College are entered in pool B.
HCDC and Addu volleybelles are the early favorites in the tournament presented by Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.
All teams in each pool will play a single round-robin format where the top two teams will advance to the semis.
The men's and women's champion teams will each get a cash prize of P4,000 while the next three placers will receive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
