Dad mulls filing of charges v. accusers
By Aurea A. Gerundio

* Staff member accuses him of taking 50 percent of workers' salary.

DAVAO City Councilor Wilberto Al-ag said Saturday he plans to take legal action against those accusing him of taking 50 percent of his staff's salary and employing 'ghost' workers.

A staff member of Al-ag's Legislative Special Activity Program (LSAP) Friday accused him of taking 50 percent of their salary.

The complainant, who requested anonymity, alleged that Al-ag warned them that their contract would not be renewed if they refused to give the 50 percent share to the latter.

"Good morning. Isa ako sa mga LSAP employee ni Nonoy Al-ag. Suweldo namo karong adlawa for the month of November pero matud pa ni Reynold Licera, kauban pud namo sa LSAP, na katunga sa among suweldo ihatag namo sa iya kay mao daw sugo ni Al-ag. Out of town baya si Al-ag karon (It is our payday today for the month of November but Reynold Licera, a colleague in LSAP, said that we should give half of our salary to him as ordered by Al-ag. Al-ag is out of town now)," the complainant said through a text message.

Sun.Star verified with the City Council's Human Resource Management Section and learned that LSAP employees are paid P228 daily.

"Nagbahad sa amo si Hon. Al-ag na kung dili daw namo ihatag ang katunga sa among suweldo sa iya, dili daw mi niya i-renew. Ang among trabaho mao ang maghatod ug bulak sa patay ug pag-gwardiya sa iyang balay (Al-ag warned us that he will not renew our contracts if we will not give him half of our salary. Our job is to deliver wreaths and to guard his house)," the complainant added.

In reaction to this, Al-ag denied new allegations against him saying the matter was probably made up by his five co-terminus employees, whose contracts are to end on December 31.

Al-ag decided not to renew the contracts of his chief of staff Roberto Rallos, Gemma Pagobo, Edna Punzalan, Fritzie Bernachea and Elizabeth Ezpelita because "they are no longer performing well in their jobs."

"Their allegations against me are impossible. If they insist that I am getting half of the salary of LSAP employees, then they should file a complaint against me. Why are they expressing their complaints to the media? They should file a complaint so there will be an investigation and we will find out the truth," Al-ag said.

Earlier, one of Al-ag's employees revealed that two persons listed under the LSAP are "ghost" employees.

The alleged "ghost" employees were identified as Paquito Sabas and Virginia Sumile.

Sabas and Sumile are listed in the payroll but are allegedly not reporting for work at Al-ag's office.

Instead of doing their duties, Sabas allegedly sells wreaths outside the Angel Funeral Parlor in Toril, Davao City, while Sumile arranges wreaths that Sabas sells.

Al-ag refuted reports that Sabas and Sumile are "ghost" employees.

"They are my staff. They do monitoring in barangays in the third district. Sa field ang assignment nila and it is not necessary for them to report to my office at the (City Council) everyday," Al-ag said.

Al-ag added there is nothing wrong if Sabas and Sumile perform other jobs than being LSAP personnel.

"Kung may talent talaga sila sa pag-arrange ng mga bulaklak at mapagkakitaan nila 'yan, bakit ko sila pipigilan? For as long as they will give me a report kung ano ang nangyayari sa pinapagawa ko sa kanila sa barangay, walang problema kung mag-sideline sila," Al-ag said.
