P27T cash prize up in Duterte netfest

A TOTAL of P27,000 cash prize is up for grabs in the Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Age-Group Tennis Championships at the Davao Capitol Tennis Courts on December 20 to 23.

Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) regional vice-president and tournament director Juanito Cansino Jr. said the champions, runners-up and two semi-finalists in all events will receive the same amount.

"The champions will win P1,500 each while P750 will be given to the runners-up and the other two semi-finalists will settle for P250 each," Cansino said.

He said the 10-under unisex, 12 years old and under, 14-under, 16-under and 18-under categories for boys and girls are entered in the netfest presented by Duterte as part of the Christmas Sportsfest 2004.

Cansino said it will be a national event that expects the participation of Manila netter Mark Balce and entries from Cebu and Dumaguete City.

Cansino added, "Our very own Ralph Kevin Barte, who had been staying in Manila for sometime, will arrive to play for Davao."

He said the country's No. 1 14-under player El Santo Santos, now playing for the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC), is the top-seed in his category.

"This tournament will be for single entries only. It will be a single knockout, best of three super tie breaker format," Cansino said.

Free registration is ongoing at the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office, Room 10, City Hall building or contact (082) 227-8074.

Interested participants may also course inquiries through Cansino at mobile number (0917) 403-6588. (MLS)
